ZEISS 8MM

Zeiss made a number of projectors Std 8 projectors that were mostly variations on a theme and all called Movilux. But there were all solidly built, out of metal, compact and well engineered.
First is what looks like an early one, but then (Pic 3) it has the "Mae West" type of lamp which was the first stage in the post-incandescent lamp revolution. It folds away very neatly but I suspect it is accompanied by a deal of twanging as it does so. The last picture seems to be derived from the same basic model, but that looks like an added sprocket on top, maybe for use with sprocketed mag tape? I never know because if there is one thing from which projectors become dissociated even more frequently than their power cords it is the Instructions for the user.

 This second group have a slightly different approach to compactness.

The feed spool arm is now a separate unit which, if I recall aright, is stored with the spindle nested into the hole below and to the right of the Movilux 8 cast-in name (pic 1). Pic 2 shows one of the perpetually irritating practices adopted by manufacturers in having their own unique mains connecting socket. The lead, of course, is never there. The one on the left I converted to a standard Euro type, but it was a huge effort and not worth it. Note also that the right-hand machine has a Mae West lamp, whereas the other (pic 3) has an old-fashioned incandescent; this pic also shows the spledidly simple and accessible gate for easy cleaning. Pic 4 reflects the lamp change, with the substantial transformer needed for the low-voltage lamp.
